AZC benefits from five draws

In the Dutch League there were five draws this weekend. Because of that AZC is now alone in the lead.

AZC had no trouble at all with Waterpolo Den Haag (6-19) on Saturday. Because Het Ravijn shared the points with UZSC (8-8), the team from Alphen aan den Rijn is now the only leader. Het Ravijn turned a 1-3 deficit into an 8-4 lead and appeared to have taken the win. But in the last period, Het Ravijn failed to score, while UZSC scored four more times.

ZV De Zaan lost an almost certain victory over GZC Donk. With more than two minutes left on the clock. A minute before the end ZV De Zaan was in the lead with 11-8. But then Stan van den Heuvel scored twice and it was suddenly 11-10 with 16 seconds left on the clock. During their last attack, ZV De Zaan made an offensive fault, so GZC Donk was given one last all-or-nothing attack. Goalkeeper Bram van Rossum went forward and in the very last second GZC Donk found Kjeld Veenhuis who netted the 11-11.

BZC and De Ham also played a draw. In Borculo it was 15-15. In the fourth period, it was the home team that made a gap (15-13), but in the last minute De Ham managed to score twice. First it was Hamish Booker and ten seconds before time Sven Gravesteijn.

Polar Bears and ZPC Amersfoort signed for the next tie on Sunday. In Ede it became 6-6. Polar Bears seemed to be the better team for a long time, but after Lars ten Broek’s 5-2 in the third period, the team from Amersfoort recovered itself and turned the deficit into a 5-6 lead. Kas te Riele evened the score in the last minute.

In the battle at the bottom, PSV did good business. The team from Eindhoven won at home against ZPB (14-12). However, the visitors from Barendrecht performed well. After Thijs Gevers’ 1-0, ZPB scored five times in a row. It took some effort, but in the second half the Eindhoven team still managed to control the game. Sebastiaan Brands’ team took a 10-8 lead in the third period and seemed to have everything under control. But Sven Silvis and Petar Filipovic brought the teams back into balance. In the last period, PSV still ran out.

ZVL-1886 made no mistake against SVH. Although the visitors took a 2-0 lead thanks to Kerem Gemalmazoglu, ZVL-1886 then ran out to 3-9 quite easily. In the end it was 9-14.
