Tennis courts in Worcester’s Cripplegate and Gheluvelt Parks are set to re-open on March 29, in line with current Government guidance.
The five new tennis courts in Cripplegate Park, which re-opened in September 2020 following a £377,000 investment from Worcester City Council and the Lawn Tennis Association, are expected to be particularly popular. Two newly resurfaced courts are also available at Gheluvelt Park.
Freedom Leisure, which operates the courts on behalf of the city council, is offering free one-hour family mini tennis sessions at Cripplegate Park on 29 and 30 March from 4pm to 5pm. Booking is essential.
There will also be a free Taster Day for people of all ages on Saturday April 3. Freedom Leisure will be holding free lessons in the morning at Cripplegate Park and in the afternoon will be at Gheluvelt Park.
And during the Easter Holidays, free adult and children’s lessons will be on offer at Cripplegate Park from April 5 to 9.
Then, from 12th to 16th of April, a range of lessons for adults and children will run at Gheluvelt Park – prices will start at £6 per hour.
The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Jo Hodges said: “It’s fantastic to see tennis served up once again in Worcester. A number of free coaching sessions for children and adults are on offer over the Easter period, helping to make the sport accessible to everyone.
“So whether you’ve never picked up a racket before or are a seasoned player, I encourage you to have some fun and make the most of Worcester’s new tennis facilities.”
