Woodland girls tennis narrowly falls to Armuchee

STAFF REPORT

The Woodland girls tennis team battled Armuchee to a virtual draw in a non-region match Thursday.

Ultimately, though, one team has to win in the end, and Armuchee managed to escape with a 3-2 victory.

For Woodland, Abby Cates and Jolie Fannin swept on Line 2 doubles in a pair of 6-4 wins.

On Line 3 singles, Monterya Morrow overcame a tough 7-6 (9-7) loss in the first set to rally for a win. Morrow won the second set 6-3 and claimed the third-set tiebreaker 10-2.

With Armuchee winning in straight sets on singles lines 1 and 2, the overall match came down to Line 2 doubles. Woodland’s Jaylee Kilgo and Jalyn Womack won the first set 6-3, but Armuchee bounced back to take the final two sets by scores of 6-4.
