The Bluejays dropped their season record to 7-4, while the Fighting Hawks improved to 7-7.
Creighton won in a tiebreaker at the No. 3 doubles position but lost at the top two slots. Emma Gener and Malvika Shukla combined for their team-leading seventh doubles win. Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox forced a tiebreaker at the top spot, but the Fighting Hawks won 7-4 in the breaker to take the doubles point.
The Bluejays earned a pair of singles wins. Shukla won in straight-sets at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3 and improved to a perfect 7-0 in singles this season. Wilcox claimed a three-set win in the No. 2 position. The junior won the first set 6-3 but dropped a 6-3 decision in the second. Wilcox moved to 7-4 this season in singles with a 6-0 victory in the deciding third set.
North Dakota won in straight-sets at No. 1 and No. 6, while Creighton forced three sets at the third and fifth slots.
Gener won 6-2 in the first frame at No. 3, and Joanna Nowakowska earned a 6-4 victory in the first set at No. 5, but both Bluejays dropped the final two frames.
“Credit North Dakota for playing a high-energy match in front of a rowdy crowd,” head coach Tom Lilly said. “We didn’t step up in some matches that we could have and just didn’t have our “A” game. We earned a big, gritty win yesterday and just couldn’t get enough going today against a team that welcomed the challenge and played well.”
Creighton returns to the courts on April 6 for a neutral site match. The Bluejays will face Wichita State in Kansas City, Missouri at 1 p.m.
