Box Score UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Freshman Alina Lebedeva came away with Penn State’s only win in the match as the Nittany Lions came up short in a 6-1 loss to #9 Ohio State on Sunday. Penn State drops to 5-5 on the season.
Doubles
The Nittany Lions competed, but ultimately lost the doubles point to Ohio State.
Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio) lost by retirement to Lucia Marzal and Lisa Hofbauer after Rohrbacher suffered an apparent leg injury in the third game of the set.
Gabby O’Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) and Karly Friedland (Hollywood, Fla.) battled in a tough 4-6 loss to Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen.
Sofiya Chekhlystova (Talinn, Estonia) and Alexandra Nielsen (Talinn, Estonia) were in a tight 4-4 match against Irina Cantos Siemers and Luna Dormet that was left unfinished.
Singles
The Buckeyes built on the lead as Friedland fell to Allen 0-6, 2-6.
Chekhlystova was defeated by #78 Cantos Siemers 4-6, 1-6 as Ohio State built a 3-0 lead.
Nielsen lost a 2-6, 3-6 match to Marzal as the Buckeyes clinched the win and extended the lead to 4-0.
O’Gorman lost in a third-set tiebreak to Boulais 6-0, 6(5)-7, 3-10.
Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) fell to Dormet 2-6, 2-6 in her second singles match of the season.
Alina Lebedeva (Moscow, Russia) denied the shutout for the Buckeyes as she defeated Madeline Atway in a third-set tiebreak 6-1, 5-7, 10-5.
