Wimbledon 2021: Victoria Azarenka vs Sorana Cirstea result, score, press conference, tennis news

Victoria Azarenka was in no mood to discuss her premature Wimbledon exit, only giving reporters 13 words in the post-match presser.

World No. 14 Victoria Azarenka has been knocked out of Wimbledon following a shock loss to Romanian Sorana Cirstea on Friday morning AEST.

The Belarusian star suffered a 7-6 3-6 6-4 loss on Court 1 to prematurely end her Wimbledon campaign in the second round.

The two-time Australian Open champion was ahead 3-1 in the decisive third set before Cirstea clinched the next four games to reclaim the lead.

Azarenka made no attempt to hide her frustration in the post-match press conference, giving reporters only 13 words to work with before abruptly leaving.

She seemingly took inspiration from Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic, who is renowned for his blunt responses in pressers.

Reporter: Do you want to tell me your thoughts on the match?

Azarenka: Not really.

Reporter: Obviously I know it wasn’t your day today. What was your assessment of what happened out there?

Azarenka: I need some more time to assess this.

Reporter: What did you make of your opponent? I know she’s always difficult to play.

Azarenka: Yeah, she is.

Moderator: We’ll leave it there.

The 23-year-old ultimately withdrew from Roland Garros citing mental health concerns.

Cirstea will next face teenage wildcard Emma Raducanu in the round of 32 on Saturday AEST.

“I have to say, I have been a professional since I was 16 years old, and this has been the best atmosphere I have ever experienced on the court,” Cirstea said after the comeback victory.
