Tennis courts cleared, action park planned for Wilkes-Barre’s Hollenback Park

WILKES-BARRE — The tennis courts at Barney Farms weren’t ready for play Friday, but the ramps and rails set up by skateboarders were gone.

The movable obstacles and an iron flat rail cemented into holes drilled into the pavement were cleared away Thursday. The four supports for the rail were cut at their bases and their sharp edges ground smooth, leaving holes in the court.

Mayor George Brown Friday said some of the obstacles were saved with the hope they could be used at the action park planned for Wilkes-Barre’s Hollenback Park. Brown and Charles Barber, president of the Luzerne Foundation, this week renewed their discussions delayed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to bring the action park for skateboarders, BMX and scooter riders to fruition.
