Pfeiffer women’s tennis evens record with win at Randolph – The Stanly News & Press

The Pfeiffer University women’s tennis team claimed their first win of the season, downing Randolph College 7-2 in Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday afternoon.

Pfeiffer (1-1) claimed all three doubles matches and four singles matches in the win.

At No. 1 singles, Anna Branson (Greensboro, N.C.) claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win followed by a win at No. 2 from Darby Sherrill (Hiddenite, N.C.). Sherrill downed Heather Whetzel by a 6-4, 6-1 score.

Senior Sydney Honeycutt (Denton, N.C.) won her match at No. 4 singles by sweeping Jenna Fink by a 6-0, 6-0 count.

Delaney Geygan (Waxhaw, N.C.) took her match at No. 6 singles, defeating Randolph’s Amanda Jagdeo, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles play, Charlotte Craven (Union Pines, N.C.) and Geygan won their No. 3 match by an 8-3 score. At No. 2, Sherrill and Honeycutt swept their opponents 8-0 and at No. 1, Branson and Elithe Hudson (Albemarle, N.C.) took their match by an 8-2 final.

The Falcon women’s team will return to action on Sunday, March 14 in a home match against USC Sumter.
