Men’s tennis: Owls win three matches

The William Woods men’s tennis team went 3-0 last week, defeating Bethel College 7-0 on Friday, and winning 7-0 against John Brown and 5-2 against McPherson College on Saturday at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.

Winning in doubles for the Owls against Bethel College were Ben Grumley and Patrick Shelepov (6-1), Nathan Cooke and Aaron Westerlund (6-4), and Zach Frisbie and Robert Schorr (6-4).

Shelepov won his No. 1 singles match 6-0, 7-5, while Grumley won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Also winning singles matches were Westerlund (6-1, 6-3), Mladen Novovic (6-0, 6-1), Jack Campbell (6-0, 6-0) Cooke (6-0, 6-3).

Against John Brown, the duo of Shelepov and Grumley won 6-2, Westerlund and Schorr won 6-2, and Campbell and Vitek Subert won 6-1.

Subert (7-5, 6-3), Grumley (6-2, 6-1), Schorr (6-2, 6-1), Novovic (6-0, 6-1), Campbell (6-4, 6-2) and Cooke (6-2, 6-0) all won in singles.

William Woods swept the doubles matches against McPherson College, with Grumley and Shelepov (6-1), Westerlund and Schoor (6-3), and Campbell and Subert (6-2) all coming out on top.

Shelepov won 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles and Grumley won 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles.

Subert (6-2, 6-2) and Schorr (6-3, 6-4) also won their singles matches.

William Woods (5-2) is scheduled to host Southwestern College at 2 p.m. Saturday.
