MEN’S TENNIS DROPS 6-1 DECISION TO BUTLER

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men’s tennis suffered a 1-6 setback against Butler in the Jags last match before starting conference play next weekend.

The Jags earned their lone point in the match with a strong performance in doubles. Blessing Benibo and Colton Morehart teamed for a 6-1 win to begin play. After Emil Jankowski and Alex Jochim lost in the No. 1 match, Ethan Mardanus-Budiono and Sean Bailey earned a 7-6 (7-3) win at the No. 2 match for the point.

The first three matches in the lineup in singles play were decided in straight sets with Butler winning all three. Morehart came up short in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 as Butler clinched the match. Jankowski pushed his No. 5 singles match to a second-set tie break but lost 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). In the No. 6 match, Eric Hollingsworth also went three sets but lost 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

IUPUI will now turn its attention to Horizon League play next weekend with two matches against Youngstown State. IUPUI will take on the Penguins on Saturday (March 27) and Sunday (March 28) with both matches starting at 1 p.m.
