After waiting more than a year to play a competitive tennis match for their school, waiting out a rain delay seemed trivial for two of the top high school girls’ programs in Northern California.

Junior Tricia Zhang completed a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles before rain chased players off the court, priming Menlo School’s 4-0 victory over host Monta Vista in Cupertino on Tuesday.

“It feels really good to be out here,” Zhang said. “We haven’t played since last fall, so it was really nice to play with the team again.”

The reigning NorCal champion Knights were also victorious in the first set at the six other spots in the lineup before the delay.

Sophomores Sofia LaBatt and Charlotte Yao each returned from the delay to complete their singles matches and the No. 1 doubles team of senior Lindsay Ball and junior Brynn Brady made it official with their victory before rain washed out the remaining matches.
