Herd Tennis To Prepare For Three Match Weekend

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—The Marshall women’s tennis team (6-5) returns back to action this weekend after having its match against WVU postponed. The Herd will travel to James Madison University (9-3) on Friday and then return back to Huntington for a doubleheader matchup against the University of Cincinnati (4-9) and the University of Charleston (10-2) on Sunday.
 
Sunday’s match will serve as Senior Day for those who are graduating and will be acknowledged at 3 p.m.
 
The match at JMU will begin at 1 p.m. The match against Cincinnati will start at 10 a.m. followed by University of Charleston at 3 p.m.

The Herd’s last matchup resulted in a 6-1 win over West Virginia State University. In the match, Marshall clinched the doubles point and won five out of six singles matches.
 
Marshall is currently ranked #7 in the Atlantic Region ITA Weekly Rankings.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: JAMES MADISON
James Madison University is currently 9-3 on the season. The Dukes picked up a 4-3 over Florida Atlantic last Saturday.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: CINCINNATI
The University of Cincinnati comes into the match with a 4-9 overall record. The Bearcats defeated Butler 6-1 last Saturday.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: CHARLESTON
The University of Charleston is currently 10-2 on the season. The Golden Eagles picked up a 6-1 win over West Liberty University and are on a nine-match win streak.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Marshall is 4-2 against JMU, 13-1 against Cincinnati, and 1-0 against Charleston.
 
FAN ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
Inside: Due to current COVID-19 guidelines, Marshall’s matches at the 7827 Tennis Center (formerly the Huntington Tennis Club) will be closed to the general public.   Live stats will be available, however, and the access link will be included in each match preview.
 
Outside: Marshall Athletics can accommodate a very limited number of fans at the outdoor tennis match. Fan attendance will be on a first come, first serve basis. Fans in attendance are REQUIRED to practice social distancing and wear a mask AT ALL TIMES.
