Helias takes second in home Invitational

Helias finished with 22 points, as Hickman claimed the team title in the four-team event with 31 points. M.M.A. had 19 points and Duchesne finished with seven points.

The Crusaders took second on all four doubles courts while the Kewpies won all four doubles courts.

Justin Francka and Andrew Dowden defeated M.M.A. 9-8 (7-1 tiebreaker), Duchesne 8-2 and lost to Hickman 5-8, and Matt Schepers and Jacob Zerr defeated M.M.A. 8-1 and Duchesne 8-0 but lost to the Kewpies 6-8. Lucas Woods and Isaac Rackers beat Duchesne 8-0 and M.M.A. 8-3 and lost to Hickman 3-8, and the pairing of Caleb Porting and Adam Winkelman beat Duchesne 8-0 and M.M.A. 8-1 and lost to Hickman 5-8.

In singles play, Jonah Lanigan took second, beating M.M.A. 8-4, Duchesne 8-0 and losing to Hickman 5-8. Alex Kampeter also took second, beating M.M.A. 9-7 and Hickman 8-3. Because Duchesne didn’t have a fourth singles player, John Paul McGuire also played for Helias, beating Kampeter 8-3 and losing to Hickman and M.M.A. 0-8.

Ethan Foucheaux took third, beating Duchesne 8-1 and losing to both M.M.A. and Hickman 3-8. Caleb Mueller took third in a three-way tiebreaker after beating Hickman 8-5 and Duchesne 8-2 while losing to M.M.A. 3-8.

The Crusaders play Friday in the Sedalia Tournament and are back at home in duals play against Rolla at 4:30 p.m. on April 29.
