Novak Djokovic was shunned by Australia and eventually deported and forced to miss the 2022 Australian Open – the tournament he has owned and claimed nine titles at – but in spite of it all the World No.1 and 20-time champion took to social media to show his class, and appreciation for this year’s champions.
“Congratulations to Rafael Nadal for 21st GS,” he wrote on Twitter. “Amazing achievement. Always impressive fighting spirit that prevailed another time.”
Djokovic also had kind words of encouragement for the man he defeated in last year’s US Open final.

“Daniil Medevedev gave it his all out there and played with the passion and determination we have come to expect from him – You put up one hell of a fight today and I know you will have many more Grand Slam wins in your future,” he wrote.
The future for the World No.1 is uncertain at the moment, as the tennis world to hear of his next steps regarding either getting vaccinated of finding a reliable exemption. He is reportedly set to play at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, on the week of 21 February.
