District tennis tourney wraps up in Uvalde

Results will be in Thursday’s edition

Uvalde High School was the site for the two-day District 30-4A tennis tournament, in which play began Friday and concluded yesterday.

Results from the tourney will be reported in Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News. Going into the tourney Friday, UHS had three of the top seeds.

Ty Gonzales was the top-seeded player in boys’ singles, Elizaria Hernandez was the top-seeded player in girls’ singles, while Jack Brock and Jonathan Garcia were the top-seeded players in boys’ doubles.

Jacob Flores and Hope Dube were the other singles entries for UHS, while Gilbert Garza and Damian Weigand were the other UHS boys’ doubles entrants.

Varsity entries for the Lobos in girls’ doubles included the teams of Brianna Amor and Ashley Garcia, and Elizabeth Phillips and Allison Goggans.

The mixed doubles teams of Aidan Burt and Michelle Miller, and Reilly Mize and Reagan Dodson were to represent UHS.

First- and second-place finishers in district play will advance to the Region IV tourney at Corpus Christi’s HEB Tennis Center on April 28-29.

UHS was to be well represented in the junior varsity division of the district tourney.

Singles players were to include Hector Lopez, Jaime Martinez, Michael Velasquez, Michael Fernandez, Elizabeth Amaya and Haley Holt.

Doubles teams were to include the teams of Cruz Gonzales and Jadon Tames, Victoria Reyes and Joana Reyes, Madison McCullough and Shea Velasquez, and Alex Garza and Ginobili Perez.
