County tennis players fall in state first round | News, Sports, Jobs

Trumbull County’s two tennis players at the state meet in Mason both were defeated in their opening-round matches on Friday.

In Division I, Harding junior Anthony Payiavlas was beaten 6-0, 6-0 by Vignesh Gogineni, a junior from Mason who won the Southwest District title. Payiavlas had finished fifth in the Northeast District to qualify for state.

Gogineni also won his second match and is in today’s semifinal round.

Lakeview senior Ryan Carnahan lost 6-2, 6-1 to Jack Pollock of Cincinnati Indian Hill in the first round of the Division II state meet. Pollock was the champion in the Southwest District. Carnahan had finished fourth in the Northeast District.

Pollock also advanced to today’s semifinals with another win on Friday.
