Borhani Promoted to Associate Head Coach

BOISE, Idaho – Kristian Widen, Boise State’s head men’s tennis coach, announced Monday that Ali Borhani has been promoted to associate head coach. Borhani has been with the Broncos for the last three years as the assistant coach helping guide the team to a 35-19 overall mark and three-consecutive winning seasons.

This past spring the Broncos went an impressive 17-3 overall and 5-2 in Mountain West play, finishing tied for second. In addition, Borhani helped mentor Blake Bayldon and Simon Arca Costas to All-MW honors in  singles. He concluded the year by being named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Boise State also placed eight members of the team on the Academic All-MW Team and two Broncos were named MW Scholar-Athletes. Meanwhile, the team received ITA All-Academic Team recognition with three members earning ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.

“Coach Borhani has poured his heart and soul into our men’s tennis program for the past three years and he is a huge reason that we are closing in on the very top of our region and within the top-50 teams nationally,” said Widen. “I am so happy for Ali and what he has accomplished in his first division one job.  He is not only a very hard worker, with great amounts of tennis knowledge, but he has also become a very close friend.  This promotion is well deserved and I am excited to continue our quest for success.”

“I need to start by thanking our director of athletics Mr. Dickey and our associate AD Mr. Mankin,” said Borhani. “They have been great to work and communicate with during their time at Boise State. I also need to thank our director of tennis, Beck Roghaar. He has played a big part in me getting this promotion.

But none of this would be possible without the leadership of Kristian. I can’t thank him enough for giving me this opportunity three years ago to work with him. He has been a huge part of my growth here professionally and personally, and I couldn’t imagine doing this anywhere else or with anyone else! Lastly, I would like to thank all the players that have made my job easier. They are the main reason behind this.”
