SEQUIM — Sequim High School senior Kalli Wiker has signed a letter of intent to play collegiate tennis at George Fox University in Newberg, Ore.
Wiker will graduate in June as Sequim’s valedictorian with a 4.0 grade point average. She earned 14 varsity letters in her career as a member of the Wolves’ tennis, basketball and volleyball programs.
Wiker also is a co-owner of the Sequim High School record for most made 3-pointers in a game with eight with current Wolves’ boys assistant Art Green.
Along with doubles partner Jessica Dietzman, Wiker won a Class 2A state doubles tennis championship in 2019 and recently finished the 2021 tennis season with an undefeated record in singles play, including an Olympic League singles championship for the league-champion Wolves.
She also recently won a $5,000 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Smart Choices Scholarship.
Wiker is the daughter of Sven and Karla Wiker.
Peninsula College conducting golf tourney
SEQUIM — Peninsula College Athletics will hold its lone fundraiser of the year, the annual Pirate Golf Tournament, at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course on Saturday, June 5.
All proceeds from the event will go toward Pirate athletic scholarships.
Peninsula was unable to host its annual Casino Night fundraiser due to the pandemic, so this event is crucial to fundraising efforts for the basketball, soccer and esports programs.
The tournament has a four-person scramble format with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Individuals also can sign up and will be placed on teams.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m.
Green fees are $100 per player, and a green fee plus player package includes two mulligans, raffle ticket and one putt for wine contest entry.
There will be opportunities for hole-in-one prizes, including a $10,000 prize ($5,000 to the golfer, $5,000 to Peninsula College Athletics) and a car provided by Wilder Auto.
Lunch will be provided after the final group finishes play, along with results and a prize drawing.
