FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alabama women’s tennis team notched its second Southeastern Conference win of the weekend, upsetting No. 22 Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., Sunday afternoon, 4-3. The Crimson Tide goes to 11-8 on the season, while the Razorbacks fall to 10-5.
Alabama opened the match by taking the doubles points. Anne Marie Hiser and Sydney Riley won at No. 2, while Arkansas came out on top at No. 1. Alba Cortina Pou and Anna Parkhomenko won a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to put UA up 1-0 in the match.
The Tide fell behind 2-1 after Arkansas picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, before Hiser tied things up with a straight-set win at No. 5 singles. Arkansas once again went ahead after taking the point at No. 4, before Sasha Gorchanyuk evened things up with a straight-set win at No. 6.
That brought the match down to No. 3 singles, where Cortina Pou split the first two sets before closing out her match and the Razorbacks with a 6-2 third-set win.
The Crimson Tide opened the weekend with another 4-3 win, this time in Columbia, Mo., against the Missouri Tigers.
