2-time tennis champ Taylor Wright voted girls high school Athlete of the Week

With 13,963 votes clicked in her direction, Tuscaloosa Academy tennis player Taylor Wright has been voted The Tuscaloosa News girls high school Athlete of the Week for the third week of April in its online voting poll.

Wright received 54.93 percent of the total 25,419 votes cast. Voters chimed in from the United States, Ireland, Germany, Canada, and, with 1,152 votes, Mexico.

Northridge’s Jacqueline Alcocer, also a tennis player, came in next with 10,080 votes or 39.66 percent, followed by American Christian Academy soccer player Gracie Olsen with 1,376 votes.

Wright won two championships at the Alabama Independent School Association state tennis championships, taking home the titles at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. 

Alcocer advanced to the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A state tennis final at No. 1 singles.

Olsen had 11 saves in goal in a soccer match against John Carroll Catholic in the first round of the AHSAA Class 4A/5A state tournament.
