More gold collected, play concludes in Amman

Gold medals secured the previous day in the men’s singles and women’s singles events; on Saturday 21st May at the Al-Watani Para Championships staged in Amman, the task was to maintain form, repeat the success.

Overall, five players achieved the feat.

Egypt’s Sayed Youssef, the men’s singles class 7 winner, partnered compatriot Hanna Hammad to the mixed doubles class 14 title. Similarly, Mio Wagner, the men’s singles class 10 victor, claimed mixed doubles class 20 gold alongside German teammate Marlene Reeg.

Meanwhile, Jana Spegel added to German success; the women’s singles class 1 winner, she partnered Sandra Mikolaschek to victory in women’s doubles class 5.

Women’s singles gold followed by women’s doubles gold; it was the same for Bhavina Patel and Sonalben Patel. Together they won class 10, apart Bhavina had succeeded in class 4, Sonalben in class 3.

Notably, Bhavina Patel came within a whisker of a full house; partnering Jashvant Chaudhary, in mixed doubles class 10, they emerged the silver medallists. At the final hurdle they were beaten by Turkey’s Suleyman Viral and Irem Oluk (11-9, 11-7, 11-4).

Notably, the success meant Suleyman Viral departed Amman with two titles, a situation that applied also Sandra Mikolaschek and Marlene Reg.

Additionally, Suleyman Viral partnered Egypt’s Mohamed Eid Saleh to gold in men’s doubles class 8, Sandra Mikolaschek in harness with Jan Guertler claimed the top prize in mixed doubles class 7.

Likewise, Marlene Reeg and Tiziana Oliv succeeded in women’s doubles class 20.

Success upon success for Germany and there was more, Benedikt Müller and Bjön Schnake gained victory in men’s doubles class 14.

Meanwhile, in the remaining events, Egypt’s Khaled Ramadan Ibrahim alongside Gregorios Chryssikos of Greece emerged men’s doubles class 4 winners; Iraq’s Hasan Al-Majidi and Abdulrahman Shafeeq claimed to top prize in men’s doubles class 18.

Play in Amman concluded, attention now turns to Podgorica; the three day ITTF Montenegro Para Championships 2022 commence on Thursday 2nd June.
