Kacper Piwowar became England’s first finalist at any level of WTT event as he reached the Under-11 Boys’ gold medal match at the WTT Youth Contender Varazdin.
The Torquay player, a double domestic national champion in July, was up against No 1 seed Mark Gergely of Hungary in the final and was edged out 3-1 (11-8, 11-8, 12-14, 12-10) in a close match. But he can be proud of his silver medal.
In the Under-15s, Joseph Hunter and Connor Green both reached the last 16, where they lost in four to higher-ranked players – in Green’s case the No 4 seed Lleyton Ullmann of Germany. Nathaniel Saunders went out in the last 64 of the same age group.
Ben Piggott and Toby Ellis were both defeated in their last-64 ties in the Under-19s in Croatia.
