Allison Schrank of Blaine, Minnesota has announced her verbal commitment to swim for NCAA Division I Ohio University beginning in the fall of 2022.

Schrank swims for The Great Wolf Swim Team, located in the Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. There, she is a USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals qualifier and a multi-time Futures qualifier. At the NCSA Summer Swimming Championships last weekend, Schrank was a finalist in both the 50 and 100 backstroke, placing 6th and 25th overall, respectively.

With her best times, Schrank will have an immediate impact when she arrives in Ohio. In the 100 backstroke, Schrank would have ranked 2nd on Ohio’s roster last season, only behind freshman Gabrielle Brust. She would have also ranked 5th in the 200 backstroke, with over a year left to improve before arriving on campus. If Schrank can improve her 50 freestyle time by about .2, she will also be in contention for a freestyle relay spot, as it only took 23.91 to rank within the top-6 times on the roster last season.
Schrank will also be a threat on the conference level, where she is already fast enough to qualify for the B-finals in both backstroke events. At the 2021 Mid-American Women’s Conference Championships, Ohio University finished 4th overall in the team standings with a total of 390 points. Although the team’s backstroke group, led by Burst, was relatively strong with multiple B-final appearances, they only had one A-finalist across both events. That swimmer was senior Sam Glass, who made the A-final of the women’s 200 backstroke, ultimately placing 8th overall. However, all of the other finalists in the backstroke events were underclassmen.
With her commitment, Schrank joins Alex Wayner, Casadie Dibetta, and Anna McGrath in Ohio’s class of 2026.
