After Thursday’s distance and sprint sessions, Friday night in Orlando will feature the first finals session of the 2022 Southern Zone South Sectional Championships. During prelims, Katie Ledecky was on top of the field in both the 200 freestyle and 400 IM, while Caeleb Dressel picked up the top seed in the 100 butterfly.

Women’s 200 Freestyle

Katie Ledecky swam to another first place finish after winning the 800 freestyle yesterday. Her time of 1:54.66 tonight is not far off of her best time of 1:53.73 from the 2016 Olympics. It also was faster than she swam at the 2020 Olympics as her fastest time there was a 1:55.21. Ledecky did not go out as fast as she normally does as she split a 56.73 at the 100 mark tonight. In her best time, she went out in a 55.43 and at the 2020 Olympics she went out in a 56.15 before finishing in a 1:55.21. Ledecky broke the meet record of 1:58.29 which Katie Hoff set back in 2014.
Teammate Natalie Hinds, who like Ledecky is relatively new to the Florida post-grad group, touched in second with a time of 2:00.60. This was a best time for Hinds as her previous best of 2:01.30 was from March 2020.
16-year-old Addison Sauickie, who swam to a fifth place finish in the 800 yesterday, finished third in a time of 2:00.91. Her best time is a 1:59.45 which she swam in July 2021 at the Florida Senior Champs West.
Men’s 200 Freestyle

Caeleb Dressel dropped over three seconds from his prelims swim to win the event in a time of 1:49.96. This is his first time swimming the event long course since Wave II Trials where he went a personal best of 1:46.63 in prelims. In that best time, he split a 51.36 at the 100 compared to a 53.12 tonight.
Andres Dupont Cabrera of Bolles finished second in a time of 1:52.51. Cabrera is committed to Stanford for fall 2022. His best time of 1:50.52 is from April 2021. Fellow Bolles teammate, Kayden Lancaster finished third in a time of 1:54.45. Lancaster is committed to Louisville for fall 2022. This is Lancaster’s best time since he moved from Indiana to Florida in 2021. His personal best time is a 1:52.28 from December 2020.
Women’s 100 Breaststroke

- Nicole Frank, 1:10.87
- Gracie Weyant, 1:11.87
UVA commit Zoe Skirboll of Racer X touched first in a time of 1:10.47. This was a little over a second off of her best time of 1:09.32 which she swam at Wave I Trials back in June.
Touching second was Nicole Frank of Azura Florida Aquatics in a time of 1:10.87. Frank represented Uraguay at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as she swam in the heats of the 200 IM. Frank was just off of her best time of 1:10.20 which she swam in November 2021 at the 1st Jr. Pan Am Games.
Gracie Weyant, finished third in a time of 1:11.87, less than a second off of her best time of 1:10.94 from April 2021.
Men’s 100 Breaststroke

- Luca Pfyffer, 1:03.48
- Dario Martin, 1:04.43
Julio Horrego, who spent his freshman and sophomore collegiate years at Florida State, won the event in a 1:02.23. Horrego represented Honduras at the 2020 Olympics and was a flag bearer. He swam faster today than he did at the Olympics in the event as he swam a 1:02.45 in the heats in Tokyo.
Luca Pfyffer finished second in a time of 1:03.48. Pfyffer is a 2021 graduate of LSU. His best time of 1:01.83 is from July 2019 at the World University Games where he represented Switzerland.
Dario Martin finished third in a huge best time of 1:04.43. His previous best time of 1:05.91 was from August 2021.
Women’s 100 Butterfly
Top 3:
- Summer McIntosh, 59.28
- Addison Reese, 1:01.08
- Addison Sauickie, 1:01.36
McIntosh swam to a win in her only event of the weekend touching in a time of 59.28. McIntosh, known as a mid-distance/distance freestyler represented Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This was her first time breaking 1:00 as her previous best time was a 1:01.69. That time would have placed her at 6th in the event in Canada during the 2021 calendar year.
Addison Reese swam to a best time of 1:01.08 to finish second. Her previous best was a 1:01.15 from July 2021.
About 25 minutes after placing third in the 200 freestyle, Sauickie finished third as well in this event. This was a best time for Sauickie as well as her previous best was a 1:01.56 from July 2021.
Men’s 100 Butterfly
Top 3:

- Mitchell Ledford, 54.35
- Martin Espernberger, 54.63
World record holder in the event, Dressel swam to his second win of the night touching the wall in a 51.95. He swam his world record time of 49.45 to win gold at the 2020 Olympics. Like the 200 freestyle, this was his first time racing. in the event since the Olympics. Dressel broke the meet record of 52.73 which Bradley Ally set in 2009.
2023 NC State commit, Mitchell Ledford touched second in a time of 54.35. His best time of 53.08 is from Summer Juniors East in August 2021.
Austrian butterflyer, Martin Espernberger, touched third in 54.63. Espernberger swims at Bolles School and is committed to Tennessee for fall 2022. He was just off of his best time of 54.44 from March 2021.
Women’s 400 IM
Top 3:
- Katie Ledecky, 4:39.68
- Michaela Mattes, 4:48.33
- Megan Wheeler, 4:50.22
Ledecky cruised to another win tonight winning the 400 IM in a time of 4:39.68. This was her first time swimming the event since 2019 where she went a 4:39.39 at Pro Swim in Knoxville. Her best time of 4:37.93 is from May 2016.
2023 Florida commit Michaela Mattes finished second in a time of 4:48.33. That was a huge best time for Mattes as her previous best time of 4:50.38 was from July 2019.
Canadian Megan Wheeler finished third in a time of 4:50.22. This was over a second and a half better than her time of 4:51.79 from prelims.
Men’s 400 IM
Top 3:
- Michael Mullen, 4:29.68
- Amadeusz Knop, 4:30.57
- Mark Szaranek, 4:31.30
Michael Mullen of Bolles School led right from the start splitting a 1:00.91 on the butterfly leg. Mullen touched in a time of 4:29.68, about four seconds off of his best time of 4:25.47 which he swam at Futures in July 2021.
Amadeusz Knop swam to a second place finish swimming a 4:30.57. This was a best time for Knop as his previous best of 4:31.36 was from January 2021.
Mark Szaranek swam to a third place finish touching in 4:31.30. The 26 year old swam at Florida from 2015-2020 and is now an assistant coach there after spending a year as a volunteer assistant.
