Softball Picked Third in NEC Preseason Poll

Central Connecticut softball was picked third in the Northeast Conference’s. This is a large jump from the Blue Devils’ last ranking, which was sixth place to begin last season.

The Blue Devils are returning most of their squad that went 23-15 last season and 20-8 against NEC opponents. After making the postseason tournament as the third seed, the Blue Devils fell to the LIU Sharks, who were eventually beaten in the Championship game as Saint Francis U won their fourth straight NEC Championship.

CCSU had several impressive performances last season and had a number of NEC honors to show for it. Paige Stringer, a rookie last season, was named Rookie of the Year, First Team All-NEC and broke CCSU”s home run records with 11 moon shots. Kaitlin Peterson also took home First Team All-NEC, while Carli Backlund and Rian Eigenmann were named to the Second Team.

Ahead of the Blue Devils in polling this year was Saint Francis U (first) and LIU (second).

The Blue Devils kick off their season on February 18, playing in a two-day tournament with Norfolk State and Hampton.
