Softball Falls to UAlbany at Home

Central Connecticut State University softball lost both games of its doubleheader against the University at Albany on Wednesday.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Great Danes were quick to get on the board in game one. After getting two runners on, a series of wild pitches got them into scoring position. A single from UAlbany scored both of them to put them up 2-0. With two more runners in scoring position, the Great Danes hit a sac fly to tack on one more run.
  • After a quick second inning, the Blue Devils got things rolling in the bottom of the third inning. Alex Rodgers drew a walk, followed by a Brooke Fedison single. Jazmin Lasane scored Rodgers with a single that put CCSU on the board.
  • The Blue Devils only gave up two hits in the fourth, but the Great Danes were able to use some quick baserunning to turn it into another score.
  • UAlbany got two more runners on to start the fifth inning and used another single to score them both.
  • After the Great Danes loaded up the bases in the sixth, the Blue Devils were able to turn a double play, but the Great Danes scored another run on a double before the damage was done.
  • CCSU got a bit of the offense rolling in the seventh and final inning as Bri Walker, Matison Piripavel and Rodgers each hit singles.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Blue Devils got the bats moving early in game two. After Gorman walked and Stringer reached on an error, Howard singled to score Gorman and put Stringer into scoring position. CCSU drew another walk after this, and Piripavel sent her home with a sac fly, giving CCSU a 2-0 run early.
  • The Great Danes hit three straight doubles that got them evened up with CCSU at two runs a piece.
  • Howard took the lead back for CCSU with a single swing of the bat, hitting a solo home run past the fences at CCSU Softball Field.
  • CCSU was able to get an out at the plate in the top of the fifth inning, but a wild pitch brought in a run for the Great Danes after this. UAlbany hit a double after this that gave UAlbany the lead back.
  • After Howard’s solo shot in the fourth inning, Stringer hit a solo homerun of her own in the bottom of the fifth that tied things back up at four.
  • A routine throw to first went past Walker’s glove and ended up scoring a run in the top of the sixth. Then, a double scored a run. Then, back-to-back singles scored four runs total. UAlbany was able to total five more runs on four hits that gave them a 14-4 lead.
  • The Blue Devils ended the day on a double play.

  • Howard led the Blue Devils in hits (2) and RBIs (2).
