- LIU got the offense started early in Sunday’s showdown, hitting two leadoff singles in the top of the first. The Sharks were able to score off this oppurtunity, scoring the first run of the afternoon on another single.
- The Blue Devils came right back with a counter in the bottom of the first, however, as Brooke Fedison smacked a hard hit ball just a few inches short of a home run. The Blue Devils’ catcher was still able to get it down for a hit and used some burner wheels to cruise into second.
- After two more leadoff singles in the top of the second inning, LIU scored its second run of the ballgame on a single. Two wild pitches from the Blue Devils proved dangerous as the Sharks scored two more runs on these in the second. A double scored the final run of the inning, giving LIU an early 5-1 advantage,
- The Sharks hit solo home runs in back-to-back innings to put two more runs up on the board, while three LIU singles scored another run in the next inning.
- The CCSU bats came to life in the bottom of the fifth inning. Katie Master and Kristin Rose each put up a single to start off the inning. Stringer stepped up the plate and cleared the bases with a home run that cleared the outfield fence, as well as the secondary fence surrounding CCSU, cutting the LIU lead to 8-4.
- The Sharks tacked on their ninth run on a sac bunt. A Meg Gorman double out to left field put a runner in scoring position with two outs remaining, and Fedison scored Gorman with a single.
