Softball Drops Opening Doubleheader to MSM

Central Connecticut State softball dropped the first two games of its weekend series with Mount St. Mary’s.

GAME 1 INFORMATION
FINAL SCORE CCSU 2 MSM 4
RECORDS CCSU (3-25, 1-6 NEC) MSM (13-14, 5-2 NEC)
LOCATION Emmitsburg, Maryland

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Mountaineers drew a leadoff walk in the first that turned into a runner on third after a steal and sac fly. An error in the field from the Blue Devils brought home the runner and scored the first run of the day.
  • Meg Dugas and Katie Master each had hits in the top of the second that loaded up the bases for the Blue Devils. The Mount got out of the jam, however, without CCSU getting across the plate.
  • MSM used the same formula from the first inning in the second: a leadoff walk that steals second. This time, a single brought home the runner from second, putting the Mount ahead 2-0.
  • Meg Gorman led off the top of the third inning with a single up the middle. Paige Stringer rocketed a double out to left field that scored her, cutting MSM’s lead to one run.
  • got through the bottom of the third in just six pitches, forcing three straight ground outs.
  • Master hit a lead off double to start the fourth inning, was advanced to third on a sac bunt, and was scored on a sac fly by Alex Rodgers. Gorman hit a triple after this, but was left stranded.
  • MSM loaded up the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning, and a single brought home two runs that quickly wiped away the tie.
  • CCSU was only able to get one more hit off against the Mountaineers, falling 4-2.
