Central Connecticut senior Angie Rafter was named Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s outdoor track and field it was announced Thursday by the league office. The Northeast Conference also named members of the Spring Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Rafter, who was named the women’s cross country Scholar Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, was honored as the graduating CCSU female student-athlete with the highest GPA this spring. She graduated with a degree in English and a 3.96 GPA and has been a member of the Northeast Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll, CCSU Athletic Director’s All-Academic Team and CCSU Student-Athlete Academic Award. On the track this spring, she was named Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) at 2021 Outdoor Championships after leading CCSU women in points scored at the championships. Rafter won the 3K steeplechase in 10:55.98 and also won the 5k in 17:39.06.
All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC announced its Spring Academic Honor Roll, consisting of a conference record 1,585 student-athletes. This year’s total represents an 7.2% increase from the previous year. There were also 460 student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which is a highwater mark for the league marking an 11.9% increase from prior year
