Mwamba ladies emerged victorious on day one of the Women’s Kenya Cup, beating Nakuru 38-13 in a match played at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday.
Kenyan International Grace Adhiambo drilled in the first points of the game after her side got a penalty. Nakuru’s joy was however short-lived as Terry Ayesa responded with a try for Mwamba. Her first try was converted by Naijuma Yvonne for a 7-3.
Mwamba seemed to take charge of the opening half as Janet Okello crossed over for the second try. Naijuma continued with her 100% conversion rate to bring the scores to 14-3.
Diana Omollo and Esther Chemchesi were yellow carded reducing Mwamba numbers to 13. Despite the card, Mwamba’s impressive start continued with Okello scoring her second try.
Returning Chemchisi converted the try before Ayesa scored another try for a 26-3 lead at halftime.
Chemchisi scored the opening try of the second half and converted while Odhiambo landed the visitors’ first try.
Deep into the second half Susan Wangui added another try for Mwamba and it turned out to be their final try.
Loreen Okoth scored the second try for Nakuru for a 38-13 scoreline.
