Moffett and Hayes seal 2022 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship

Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes have secured their second Irish Tarmac Rally Championship title after finishing fourth on the Ulster Rally.

Four rally wins through the 2022 Irish Tarmac season put the Hyundai pair in a strong position heading into the championship’s final round. Meirion Evans and Jonathan Jackson were the only crew that could take the title from them.

The Welsh duo won the Ulster Rally, their first-ever international victory, but it still wasn’t enough to usurp Moffett and Hayes from the top of the championship.

Desi Henry had led the Ulster Rally after the opening day but an accident on a Saturday morning’s slippery opener broke his Ford Fiesta Rally2’s steering arm.

Evans picked up the lead with Jonny Greer his nearest rival. A puncture on Stage 7 cost Greer two minutes and gave Evans and Jackson a comfortable margin to seal their first victory in Ireland.

For Moffett and Hayes, it was mission complete, as they cruised home in fourth position – their lowest but perhaps the most essential finish in a flawless Irish Tarmac campaign.
