Tom Edgar Wins at Snetterton and leads the Championship heading to Brands! – Motorsport.ie

Tom Edgar returned to Snetterton at the weekend, a circuit that he found most difficult to be competitive at last year. In preparation for his Ginetta Junior Season, he had spent a few extra days testing at the complex track to try and improve on last year’s performance. Although the additional time on track certainly proved fruitful, it in no way gave any indication that he was going to be quite so quick when the series visited the famous venue.

Qualifying went well on Saturday, with Tom managing to take the all important pole position with an impressive performance over a very competitive 27 car grid.

In race one, Tom was beaten off the line, but a brave move for the lead halfway round the first lap saw him take the lead, which he then held to the end for a well-deserved victory. Unfortunately for the Belfast racer though, the stewards deemed his move to be unfair and he was penalised three places to finish fourth.

In race two, Tom started second, but a messy start procedure meant he initially dropped to seventh. In a typically gutsy performance, he charged through to cross the line in second, and bag another haul of all important points,

In race three, Tom began the first lap in second position but swiftly captured the lead. A safety car intervention was no problem for him and held off pressure from behind to take the chequered flag for yet another win.

Despite the race one setback, it was a hugely positive weekend for Tom, and he left Snetterton with a 17 point lead in the championship.

Tom returns to the track in Brands Hatch in a week’s time and on current form,  we wouldn’t bet against him!
