“It’s a story you may think you know,” says the woodcarver Geppetto in the new teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, “but you don’t.”
The new stop-motion animation film from the acclaimed director is slated to arrive on Netflix this December, months after Disney’s live-action Pinocchio take drops on their streaming service Disney+. Hence why this trailer may want to proclaim its uniqueness — they’re competing with Tom Hanks’s Geppetto, after all.
Despite the dueling Pinocchios, this one is sure to deliver. Not only is del Toro involved, but so are A-listers Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton, among others. Plus, the trailer gives the audience a sneak-peek into the fantastical animation that’s sure to fit with the classic tale.
There’s no set release date yet, but Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio will be on Netflix sometime in December.
