Vegas Golden Knights Announce Roster Transactions

VEGAS (March 30, 2021) – Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced today, March 30, the following roster transactions: the team has signed defenseman Layton Ahac to a three-year, entry-level contract beginning during the 2021-22 season, the team has signed defenseman Zack Hayes to a three-year, entry-level contract beginning during the 2021-22 season and the team has assigned forward Cody Glass to the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights.

Ahac, who also signed an AHL contract with the Silver Knights for the remainder of this season, collected nine points (1 G, 8 A) in 27 games during his sophomore season at Ohio State University, the second highest point total among all Buckeye defensemen. As a freshman last year, he appeared in each of the team’s 36 contests and recorded three points (0 G, 3 A) to go with 25 penalty minutes. Prior to his time with the Buckeyes, the Vancouver native spent two seasons in the BCHL with the Prince George Spruce Kings and helped lead the team to a BCHL Championship during the 2018-19 season. Ahac was selected by the Golden Knights in the third round (86th overall) during the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Hayes has played in 17 games this season with the team’s AHL affiliate the Henderson Silver Knights and scored four points (1 G, 3 A) to go with nine penalty minutes. Before his time with the organization, the defenseman played in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders, tallying 23 points (7 G, 16 A) to go with 68 penalty minutes in 60 games during the 2019-20 season. He served as the Raiders team captain and tied for a team-high plus-37 after leading the team to a 36-18-10 record (82 points), which led the WHL’s Eastern Conference. The Calgary, Alberta native finished with 79 points (15 G, 64 A) to go with 322 penalty minutes in 272 games with Prince Albert in parts of five seasons (2015-20). Hayes helped lead the Raiders to their second Memorial Cup appearance ever, and first since 1985, after capturing their second Ed Chynoweth Cup following the 2018-19 season.

Glass has appeared in 25 games for the Golden Knights this season and has recorded 10 points (4 G, 6 A) to go with six penalty minutes. Glass was the first player drafted in the organization’s history after being selected sixth overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
