Russian Junior Hockey Player Fayzutdinov Dies After Being Hit by Puck

The KHL has announced that MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg captain Timur Fayzutdinov has died after being hit in the head by the puck during a game.

Faizutdinov was playing in a Russian junior league match for Dynamo St. Petersburg’s junior club when he was struck by a flying puck on Friday against Loko Yaroslavl. Faizutdinov collapsed on the ice and was taken to a nearby hospital in Yaroslavl and spent the next few days in the hospital.

Dynamo said upcoming games will begin with a minute’s silence for Faizutdinov, who served as the MHL team’s captain this season. Faizutdinov spent most of his teenage years playing in the Dynamo hockey system, registering seven assists in 52 games with the club in 2019-20.

“(The) KHL is saddened by passing of JHL Dynamo St. Petersburg player Timur Fayzutdinov … after he suffered a head injury during JHL game,” the league said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Fayzutdinov was 19 years old.
