NHL TRADE DEADLINE: PENGUINS LAND CARTER FROM KINGS, BRUINS GET TAYLOR HALL

With the NHL Trade Deadline approaching on Monday, the Penguins and the Los Angeles Kings made a late-night trade on Sunday.

Reports say that the Penguins acquired 36-year-old center Jeff Carter from the Kings. In return, Los Angeles will receive conditional draft picks, according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, who first reported the deal. McKenzie also reports that Carter has a year left on his current contract, in which the Kings will cover a portion of his salary.

Carter has 19 points – eight goals and 11 assists – through 40 games played this season. He and Pens’ general manager Ron Hextall won a Stanley Cup with Los Angeles in 2012, where Hextall was the team’s assistant general manager.

BRUINS NAB HALL FROM SABRES

In other NHL news, the Boston Bruins acquired 29-year-old Taylor Hall from the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday. In return, the Bruins will receive Anders Bjork and a 2021 second-round pick.

Hall, a former first-round pick in 2010, was the NHL’s most valuable player in 2018 with the New Jersey Devils and played with the Arizona Coyotes in 2020. This season, Hall has 19 points, nine power play points, and 17 assists with Buffalo.

The trade deadline is scheduled for Monday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
