Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Joel Armia remained the only Canadiens players on the NHL’s COVID Protocol Related Absences list when it was updated at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

That’s good news for the Canadiens, who had four scheduled games this week postponed after Kotkaniemi and Armia were placed on the list Monday. Both players took part in Monday’s morning skate at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard. The Canadiens aren’t out of the woods yet since it can take almost a week after exposure to COVID-19 to register a positive test result.

The Canadiens were scheduled to play the Edmonton Oilers Monday, Wednesday and Friday night this week at the Bell Centre, followed by the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.

The Canadiens players continue to be tested every morning for COVID-19 and are now scheduled to play their next game next Tuesday night in Ottawa against the Senators. Pending test results in the coming days, the Canadiens are expected to open the Bell Sports Complex practice facility next Monday.

Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin is scheduled to hold a video conference with the media at 11 a.m. Thursday. That will be the first time anyone from the Canadiens will speak publicly since Monday morning.

The NHL notes that players can be put on the COVID absences list for a number of reasons including, among others: “(1) an initial positive test which remains unconfirmed until confirmatory testing is completed pursuant to the Positive Test Protocol; (2) mandated isolation for symptomatic individuals pursuant to the Positive Test Protocol; (3) required quarantine as a high-risk close contact in accordance with the Positive Test Protocol; (4) isolation based on a confirmed positive test result and/or; (5) quarantine for travel or other reasons as outlined in the COVID-19 Protocol.”
