Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal more risk. This is especially true on tonight’s slate, where there are lots of lower-salaried plays. Plugging in these options will afford you more chances to play some studs, as well.
Wednesday night has three games on the schedule. It is time to take a look at some lower-salaried players.
Dylan Cozens, Center, Buffalo Sabres
FanDuel Salary: $3,700
The Buffalo Sabres are playing out the rest of the season with a rookie on their top line in Dylan Cozens. For what it is worth, Cozens is embracing the role. Shot volume can be a bit of an issue but if he plays 17-19 minutes a night, Cozens can be quite effective in creating offense. He scored a goal in 19 minutes against the New York Rangers on Monday night. Cozens generated three scoring chances and showed the vision which made him a top draft pick.
The risk with Cozens again is the shot count. He does not attempt more than two or three shots a game on the best of nights. So, his floor is fairly low. The potential for offense against the Pittsburgh Penguins is decent considering Pittsburgh may give up a late goal or two.
Jaret Anderson-Dolan ($3,300) has seven real-world points in 20 games for Los Angeles. He has a favorable matchup versus the San Jose Sharks.
Andrew Copp, Wing, Winnipeg Jets
FanDuel Salary: $3,900
Andrew Copp is a solid middle-six choice against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night. He has double-digit FanDuel points in his last two games.
Again, most may be on the top players but Copp is one of the middle-six wingers that can be used as a one-off choice in lineups. He has 6 goals and 15 assists on the season for a reason. Copp gets himself in areas where the scoring chances are. His floor may be low as far as shots but he does average over a block a game.
Brandon Montour, Defenseman, Buffalo Sabres
FanDuel Salary: $3,700
Brandon Montour could carry offensive upside on Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He does have three real-world points in his previous three games. With the Buffalo Sabres having little to play for, Montour may see more of a look. More ice time means more opportunities for offense and even blocked shots.
Value options are definitely out there on Wednesday night. For such a short slate, defensemen do seem to be in a bit of an abundant supply.
