Trey Lance’s pro day could impact the Eagles draft strategy

Despite the Eagles reportedly being all-in on Jalen Hurts for 2021, the team still sent the offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach to Fargo, North Dakota to witness the Pro Day of the star quarterback, Trey Lance.

Lance put on a show Friday morning and leaving some in NFL circles feeling like the Eagles have interest in the signal-caller but don’t want to show their hand.

Lance threw 66 passes to five receivers left some personnel gurus marveling at his ability.

“He’s dripping with ability,” NFL Network analyst and former Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah marveled at one point. “This guy can make some special, special throws.”

The Eagles normally do their due diligence on every big-named player, and that could be the status quo.

Lance played just one game in 2020 due to the FCS shifting schedules amid COVID-19 and he went 15 of 30 passing for 149 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, 143 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns in a win over Central Arkansas.

In 2019, Lance was nearly perfect throwing for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns, zero interceptions, 1,100 rushing yards, and 14 rushing touchdowns.

Only the Eagles truly know how the organization feels about Jalen Hurts, and Lance may have just made the evaluation process that more difficult.
