After spending years and years trying to find a franchise quarterback, the Tennessee Titans have finally answered that question mark with Ryan Tannehill after trading for him in 2019.
Since then, Tannehill has proven to be an absolute steal. He has revived both his career and the Titans’ offense over two stellar seasons, won Comeback Player of the Year in 2019, and has helped take the Titans to back-to-back playoff appearances and one division title.
As a result of his recent success, the Titans find themselves with one of the better, more stable quarterback situations in the NFL, as Nick Shook of NFL.com writes:
Tennessee locked itself into Ryan Tannehill when it signed him to a four-year, $118 million deal last year, so he’s not going anywhere in 2021. After posting a league-best 117.5 passer rating in less than a full season in 2019, Tannehill recorded another stellar mark of 106.5 last year. The Titans have questions to answer elsewhere, but not at quarterback.
Ranked alongside the Titans in terms of quarterback situations are concerned were the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, per Shook.
After his impressive first season in Nashville, Tannehill was rewarded by the Titans with a four-year, $118 million deal that is set to keep him in the two-tone blue through 2023.
While the Titans are set at quarterback, they do need to improve Tannehill’s targets in the passing game. A.J. Brown will remain the team’s No. 1 option in 2021 and beyond, but Tennessee will have to replace Adam Humphries, and quite possibly Corey Davis and Jonnu Smith.
Even if one or both return, the Titans need to add depth at wide receiver; however, having to find new pass-catchers is a much more desirable problem to have than needing a new quarterback.
