Steelers interest in QB Jamie Newman

The Pittsburgh Steelers got quarterback Ben Roethlisberger back for at least the 2021 NFL season but it’s obvious they are keeping an eye on their future. According to ESPN NFL reporter Brooke Pryor, former Georgia and Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman noted he’s had multiple talks with Steelers staff including head coach Mike Tomlin and new offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

Newman is something of an enigma as a draft prospect. His plan was to transfer from Wake Forest to Georgia, take over the starting quarterback spot and showcase his freakish athleticism with a top SEC offense.

Instead the COVID-19 pandemic happened, Newman opted out of the 2020 college football season and so all the Steelers have to go off of is a 2019 campaign where Newman started 12 games, threw for 2,686 yards and 26 passing touchdowns while chipping in 574 rushing yards and six more scores.
