Report: Patriots trade Marcus Cannon to Texans originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The New England Patriots reportedly are parting ways with veteran offensive tackle Marcus Cannon.
According to The Boston Globe’s Jim McBride, the Patriots have traded Cannon to the Houston Texans and will exchange 2021 NFL Draft selections in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds. The Patriots will save more than $7 million in salary cap space as a result of the deal.

Cannon’s future in New England was in question after the Patriots traded for tackle Trent Brown last week. The 32-year-old, who opted out of the 2020 NFL season over COVID-19 concerns, is the odd-man-out on the O-line with Brown and Isaiah Wynn likely to take the starting tackle spots.
During his nine seasons in New England, Cannon helped the Pats to three Super Bowl titles and was a second-team All-Pro in 2016. He played in 115 games in his Patriots career.
