The 49ers need some help on their offensive line, and addressing that unit in this year’s draft should be somewhere near the top of their priority list.
One prospect on their radar is Oklahoma State offensive lineman Teven Jenkins, who met virtually with the club according to the Draft Wire’s Justin Melo.
Jenkins will enter the draft as a tackle prospect after spending most of his career with the Cowboys moving between the right and left tackle spots. He also saw time at right guard as a freshman which gives reason to believe he could find a long-term home there in the NFL.
At 6-6, 310 pounds he has good enough size to stay at tackle though, and that versatility to kick inside and outside is something the 49ers could be looking for in any prospect they draft this year. They need immediate help on the interior, but there also is a question looming about Mike McGlinchey’s viability as a long-term option at right tackle. He may wind up being the starter there with a bounce-back 2021 campaign, but it’s a question the 49ers should at least be considering this year.
