NFL free agency: Giants hosting NT Danny Shelton on visit

The New York Giants are hosting veteran nose tackle Danny Shelton on a free agent visit Monday, per NFL insider Adam Schefter.

The 345-pound Shelton is a six-year veteran who spent last season with the Detroit Lions. If signed, Shelton could join Austin Johnson in a job-share as the Giants seek to replace — at a fraction of the cost — Dalvin Tomlinson. The Minnesota Vikings signed Tomlinson to a two-year, $21 million contract ($12.5 million guaranteed) this offseason.

Shelton was a first-round pick (12th overall) by the Cleveland Browns in 2015. He spent three seasons with the Browns, was traded to the New England Patriots where he crossed paths with current Giants head coach Joe Judge, and was in Detroit in 2020.

Shelton has played in 87 regular-season games and 3 playoff games. He will still be only 28 years old during the 2021 season despite it being his seventh year in the NFL.

The Giants are listed by Over The Cap as having $6.474 million in salary cap space.
