Jarran Reed quickly finds new NFL team after release by Seahawks

Released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, defensive tackle Jarran Reed already has a new home in the NFL. The former Alabama standout has agreed to a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, ESPN and NFL Network reported.

Seattle signed Reed to a two-year, $23 million contract extension after the 2019 season, but releasing the defensive tackle shaved $8.5 million off the Seahawks’ salary-cap obligations for 2021.

Reed is coming to Kansas City for a one-year deal that includes $5 million in guaranteed money and could be worth as much as $7 million, NFL Network reported.

A second-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, Reed had spent his entire pro career with the Seahawks.

Reed had 38 tackles, 6.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits and one forced fumble while starting all 16 regular-season games in 2020.

The Chiefs return their starting defensive tackles from the 2020 season – two-time Pro Bowler Chris Jones and Derrick Nnadi.

In 72 regular-season games, Reed has 194 tackles, 22 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 58 quarterback hits, six passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Reed also played in six postseason games with Seattle.
