Family, friends hold vigil for former NFL football player Louis Nix III – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Saturday, a vigil was held for former NFL football player Louis Nix III.

In February, Action News Jax reported on Louis Nix III’s disappearance, and days later, his family confirmed he had passed.

JSO and a dive team pulled him from his car out of a pond near his North Jacksonville apartment.

“I just want to honor him today and say a prayer for him today,” Stephanie Wingfield said about her son. “I wish this on no mom, a mom shouldn’t have to bury her child.”

Wingfield still doesn’t know how her son ended up in the water, but she does know one thing for sure — her son was loved by many.

“I thank God for all the support, the cards, the calls, the texts,” she said. “I didn’t know my son knew so many people, so many people loved him.”

In December of last year, a brush with death when Nix was robbed and shot at a gas station led him to salvation.”If any good came out of this, it was that he gave his life to God,” Wingfield said.

“God heard my prayer because my prayer was, ‘God, don’t let my kids leave this world without you,’ and God let me see he heard my prayer.”
