Detroit Lions re-sign Don Muhlbach for 18th NFL season

Don Muhlbach is immortal.

On Friday morning the Detroit Lions announced that their veteran long snapper is back for his 18th season in the NFL. Muhlbach has been with the Lions since midway through the 2004 season. With Matthew Stafford now traded, Muhlbach is the only remaining Lions player that joined the team before 2010 (and no one else even close).

Muhlbach’s return is not much of a surprise, seeing as the Lions let backup long snapper Steven Wirtel sign with the Los Angeles Rams. Additionally, Muhlbach made it quite clear that he had interest in returning to Detroit, despite the team likely going through a full rebuild.

“I’ve done it before,” Muhlbach said in December. “So maybe I could help with (the rebuild). I do feel like I want to get this thing going in the right direction before they get rid of me.”

As per tradition since 2012, we celebrate the re-signing of Muhlbach the same way. He’s the best, around:
