Just a few years ago, the Jaguars signed Nick Foles to be their starting QB. That went so badly that the Jaguars started, and then stayed with, 6^th rounder Gardner Minshew. Around the same time, Lawrence took the Clemson Tigers to an undefeated season and won the National Championship as a true freshman, throwing for 3,280 yards, 30 TDs, and 4 INTs during that season. Lawrence would not win the National Championship again, losing to Joe Burrow and LSU in 2019 and then failing to get past OSU in the first round of the playoffs in 2020. Still, Lawrence completed almost 70% of his passes in his last year, throwing for 3,153 yards, 24 TDs, and 4 INTs and finished second in Heisman voting.

Lawrence will be joining an offense that has a very solid starters in RB James Robinson, WR Laviska Shenault Jr., and WR DJ Chark Jr. The Jaguars offense then added WR Marvin Jones Jr., WR Jamal Agnew, WR Phillip Dorsett, and pass-catching tight end James O’Shaughnessy. The Jaguars also added pass-blocking tight end Chris Manhertz who can help protect their rookie QB. The Jaguars also have another 3 picks in the first 45 picks of the draft to add help on either side of the ball.

The Jaguars will be fun to watch in 2021, and may finally be poised to take the AFC South crown as the Texans deal with issues surrounding Deshaun Watson, the Colts are riding with Carson Wentz who is coming off a bad season, and the Titans seek to keep the magic of Ryan Tannehill going for another season.

Pokorny: “The Browns took forever to fix their quarterback situation, and now we’re seeing that story with some other franchises like the Jaguars and Jets — rinse and repeat. I think Lawrence has potential, but I don’t expect him to run very well at the NFL level. Keep him as a passer and let Robinson do the heavy lifting on the ground to try to revitalize that offense.”
