The Queensland Firebirds have been fined $10,000 by the Super Netball League after breaching the competition rules during the recent contracting period.
A review by the league compliance manager determined the Firebirds breached the competition rules by including additional services agreements as part of letters of offer.

Offers to several players were in breach as the club worked to re-sign and attract new players for the 2022 season as the entire league came off contract.
Super Netball executive general manager of commercial Adam Richardson acknowledged this was the Firebirds’ first rules breach but said compliance was paramount to the integrity of the competition.
“The competition rules are the backbone of a fair and equitable Super Netball competition,” Richardson said. “We acknowledge this was the Firebirds’ first breach and we thank them for their cooperation during the review.”

Netball Queensland, which owns and operates the Firebirds, accepted the penalty — $5000 of which is suspended.
Queensland Firebirds and Netball Queensland chief executive, Kate Davies, who only started in her role this month, said management had moved quickly to put structures in place to prevent any further breaches occurring.
“Our intentions are to always operate with integrity by respecting the rules and processes in place,” Davies said.
