The NBA Draft is still a month and a half away, but with word of NBA Combine invites leaking over the weekend and the Combine itself fast approaching on June 21, there are plenty of NBA mock drafts being updated and readjusted.
One constant is that Florida point guard Tre Mann appears to be turning into a consensus first-round pick.
Gary Parrish at CBS Sports updated his mock draft at the beginning of June and has Mann going as high as the No. 10 overall pick, to the New Orleans Pelicans. Kyle Boone, his colleague at CBS Sports, updated his mock draft a little more recently.
Boone’s June 7 update has Mann going a bit lower. He has Mann penciled into the No. 21 overall pick, going to the New York Knicks.
Mann’s versatility and strong 3-point shooting, especially late in the season, have many convinced he can really bolster a backcourt at the next level. After shooting just a 27.5% clip from beyond the arc as a freshman, Mann’s shooting percentage rocketed to 40.2% from downtown as a sophomore as he began to play a larger role.
At 6 foot 5, Mann also offers solid length in the backcourt.
His run at the end of the season was nothing short of remarkable, though you could certainly make the case that Florida became overly reliant on him down the stretch. Mann scored 20.9 points per game in his final seven games, including a 30-point outburst in the SEC Tournament against Tennessee.
That seven-game stretch also included a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double against Auburn.
The strong spurt to finish the season offered NBA teams a glimpse at what a still-improving Mann could become at the next level. Noted 247Sports’ Matt Howe on Mann’s draftability after a strong sophomore season:
Tre Mann hit big shots throughout the NCAA Tournament. There is a lot to like about the point guard dynamo. He has the tools to carve out a pivotal role in an NBA rotation. His size and ability to score at multiple levels will allow him to either be a starter or an energizing force off the bench. He averaged 16 points, 5.6 rebounds and shot 40.2% from three-point range. Expect Mann to continue to climb up NBA Draft boards. He has the talent to be another point guard taken early once the NBA Draft arrives.
The full list of NBA Combine invites has not yet been made public by the league, but it would shocking if Mann wasn’t invited like teammate Scottie Lewis.
Mann and Lewis, former five-star prospects, announced following the season that they would both enter the NBA Draft and sign with an agent, precluding a return to college.
“After much consideration, I have decided to take the next step in my basketball career and will declare for the 2021 NBA draft,” Mann told ESPN. “To Gator nation, your love and support will always hold a special place in my heart. I will be hiring an agent to help guide me through this process.”
